Historical or culturally specific – the concept of author/artist and the implication in authorship in art which can be changed through working collaboratively creates an interesting arguement – does this undermine the idea of “Artist” as Authorsee blog on Jon Rubens?. In Rubens studio Rubins did the faces and others did what they did well although the paintings are attributed to Rubens. Geoff Koons, Gormley contemporarily follow the same practices. There is an authorship and making intercept which must direct us to rethink, perhaps, the concept of authorship and look at a new interpretation which can encompass the diachronic atributes of the term.

The context becomes part of the reading as does the experience of the reader. We are bringing our own expectations and understanding of this famous thing. It is a painting, It is on a canvass etc.

Rather than there being a meaning in the work (ie ‘locked in’ acca Plato) Roland Barthes says the meaning of the work comes from the viewer viewing the work with knowledge.

Levi-Strauss – investigation of non western cultures. The lived experience becomes the work or is the work but this aspect is not ‘known’ to me. I am a piece of the jigsaw that I happen to be part of. I am not the origin of it, the work comes through me rather than from me. I am the intersection that allows this work to arrive now where I am.
In the same way that we encounter something through our lived experience. I still have choices, I can combine the factors that make the meaning happen.

meaning of the work. He says it is where the work arrives or where it is read that makes the work. It is the encounter. 
We are already in the mix, within the associations, or language, notes, colour, marble – because they have already been used in many ways already. We are seeing them against this and making of judgement on this new shift conceived of as “more or less” equal in the moment.
